This. I don’t get this.

Why Rorschach doesn’t fight back harder, why he doesn’t lie, dissemble, pretend to agree for long enough to get out of there and into a situation in which he has more freedom to pursue what he feels is right…

He could just be tired- these people have been doing what they do for a long, long time (even the second-generation Silk Spectre and Night Owl), and Rorschach has worked it at a level at which he has to figure that what he’s seen is just what human nature is like, whether that’s innate or ‘merely’ ‘under the circumstances’- and really- which would be worse? Depends on what you mean by worse.

Now, why Dr. Manhattan goes along with it, though, that… that’s a biggie. Sure, he’s admitted to himself in his journals (or in his thoughts, I don’t recall which specifically) that he has grown more and more detached from the human race, from the human part of himself- it’s actually more like he’s a textbook case of PTSD, if you ask me, and in severe denial about it, too- if he were really as removed as he claims, he wouldn’t have been involved in this thing, he would be off on Mars, or farther out, he might not even be in a humanoid form anymore, I mean the guy’s power levels, and what he can do with it, are incredibly amazing- whatever the lie is, whatever it is that it’s hiding, it is betrayed in this moment- if were as dispassionate as he claims, he wouldn’t even be there, much less involved, much less involved in a way that allows him to reconcile himself to this.
